Artist Statement:
My paintings focus primarily on biological processes in science, medicine, and nature. My images are abstract and based on experiences taken from scientific observations or from nature and transferred on canvas. My oil paintings are given concise titles or left untitled for the work should evoke emotion and not be interpreted for the viewer. I explore the juxtaposition of color and light while employing large spontaneous brush strokes “alla prima” or using traditional oil techniques of the Dutch masters. The sculptural forms have simple lines and movement and encompass novel combinations of materials including epoxy resin, stone, interference, dichroic and color shift pigments. Art, science, discovery, and analysis are practices that are shared by artists and scientists. Through my work I envision and enact moments of experimentation and discovery.
